Alas a timed game!
The sunshine was in abundance for this fixture and having won the toss skipper Gibbs elected to bat. Nick and Prash opened the batting with a bright start before Prash holed out for 12.
Nick and Ali continued to force the pace before Ali was not quick enough down the 22 yards and was run out for 22. Nick was out caught for a well crafted 50. Shayam and Zeeshan then batted very explosively to push the runs on to what was looking like a big total. Shayam was out just short of his fifty on 48. Zeeshan was joined by Uzair, who took on the bowling for a short lived 14. The innings was closed at that point with us on 231 for 4 with Zeeshan not out on a very impressive 75.
After a wholesome tea we set about bowling out Highgate in the time available.
We were off to an encouraging start when we had them 2 wickets down with only 3 runs on the board. Angus was bowling with real pace and accuracy and was rewarded with these two wickets.
More good news when Zeeshan’s sharpe fielding ran out Mike Phillips. However Highgate were solid in their defence and with Tony Mitchell making 44 they were eating into the time.
Skipper Gibbs brought himself on and took a couple of wickets but Highgate held out for a tame draw, scoring 109 for 8. The bowling honours went to Angus with 3 for 12. Other wicket takers were Julian with 2 for 15 and Zeeshan and Shayam one each both for not many runs.
