Taplow v FCC
By Fulmer CC | April 23, 2011
Fulmer 231-2
Taplow 126-8
Weather stopped play – Taplow conceded defeat
Another gorgeous early season day saw Fulmer travel to our perennial fixture at Taplow, a league club of some repute. Skipper Tony King called correctly and elected to bat, seeing enough potential in Nigel Field to promote him to opening the batting with Prash. Despite some early uncertainty against a slingy bowler, our pair settled and then began to assert their authority. Aggressive running between the wickets and some dreamy shot-making soon saw Taplow very much under the cosh and running out of ideas.
Such was the serenity of the progress it was no surprise to see the score rattling past 100, 150 and then 200 in what has been observed as the highest opening partnership (210) in living (Del’s) memory. Prash (77) was a tad unfortunate to fall short of the ton but Nigel, surviving a very straightforward chance at cover on 80, registered his first century of the season, finishing on 126. Nick and Uzair were awoken from the boundary shade to add a final flourish to the closing total of 231-2.
In reply, Taplow struggled to get going. Zeeshan and Ali bowled some tight stuff early on, ably supported by first change Angus Spratling, who picked up a wicket with his very first ball and bowled with fine pace and bounce. Debutant keeper Danny Lavin quickly made his mark with a smart catch low to his right and with further wickets tumbling through some good catching and accurate bowling, Taplow’s stuffing had gone.
With the game meandering along, a surprise thunderstorm ended proceedings early with the Taplow skipper conceding the win to Fulmer, languishing as they were on 126-8 from 33 overs. As Rebellion Brewery continue to cement their hold on Thames Valley cricket pavilions, this decision was well received by all and Nigel sportingly did the honours in celebration of his earlier achievement.
