FCC v Vultures

By | May 28, 2011

Fulmer  111 for 3

Vultures 109  all out

FCC won by  7 wickets

Following a midweek downpour and an overcast morning, the pitch prepared by Paul was unusually damp. This, however, did not prevent Vultures from electing to bat once they had called the toss correctly.

Ali opened the bowling and immediately troubled the Vultures openers. The first two casualties were, however, self inflicted with running and calling that closely resembled Japanese pilots Second World War tactics!

After four overs each, Ali and Prash were removed from the attack and held in reserve. This gave the opportunity for Shyam, Pete, Armando, Jules and Nick to show what they could do. They all delivered in their varying ways and made scoring tough for our opponents. Wickets fell steadily with Pete and Shyam taking a wicket apiece. Jules stole the headlines in taking 5 for 20 in mopping up the Vultures innings and the visitors finished on 109 all out.

In the interests of time, your correspondent has decided not to record the dropped catches! What is worthy of note, however, was Nick securing the fielding award with two well judged catches and a tremendous throw from the boundary which accounted for the Vultures captain who was attempting an ambitious third run.

Tea coincided with a passing shower which threatened to place a halt on proceedings. Thankfully, it soon passed and things got underway with Prash and Ian opening up for Fulmer. Ian fell cheaply, bowled playing across a straight one. Nigel came to the crease and things progressed steadily until the Chairman’s raised finger rudely interrupted Nigel’s progress. Nige missed the post match press conference!

Nick was next and, in company with Prash, began to raise the tempo with some crisp hitting against some indifferent bowling. In search of another 50, Prash skied one to point and was out for 42.

It was left to Shyam and Nick to apply the finishing touch and the target was reached after just 21 overs, with Nick finishing on a brisk 37 not out.

So, another encouraging win for Fulmer, completed in good time, enabling showers and drinks to be taken in preparation for Champions League viewing in the clubhouse.
