FCC v Bamville

By | July 9, 2011

Fulmer 121 all out

Bamville 122 for 7

Bamville won by 3 wickets

A new opposition for Fulmer meant that this game was always going to be interesting as the teams tried to identify each others’ strengths and weaknesses.

Tony won the toss and decided that batting looked like the best strategy. This seemed to have been a misguided choice after some nagging bowling left Fulmer in apparent tatters at 39 for 6.

A rearguard action, however, was started by Jules and Peter Box (12) sharing a stand of 27 and continued with a further 50 run partnership between Jules and James King (11).

Jules was eventually out having scored a valuable 36 and the Fulmer innings closed on 121 from 36 overs. The second highest contributor was extras who added a bonus 29 runs to the total. A strange event occurred during Peter’s innings when he missed the ball, it hit the outside of off stump but did not disturb the bails! To add insult to injury, they even ran a bye as the ball was deflected past the wicket keeper.

With the gauntlet thrown down, skipper Tony responded in vigorous fashion by opening the bowling with Steve at one end and Del at the other (or at least as vigorous as Del ever gets!).

The old war horse (Del, not Steve) lived up to his reputation with an excellent spell of 8-5-7-3 and the first four Bamville batsmen only scored nine runs between them.

The father and son team of Peter and Nick Box contributed in an unusual manner… Peter tweaked his hamstring during his one over, which was then completed by Nick.

Bamville’s nerves were settled with Hartlet (17), Oliver (40) and Akbar (39*) slowly overhauling the Fulmer total, although they took 36.3 overs to reach the target.

A low scoring match was enjoyed by everyone and, although the result went the wrong way this time, FCC look forward to plenty more jousting with Bamville in the future.
