Cranbourne v FCC

By | September 17, 2011

Fulmer 272 for 5

Cranbourne 206 for 8

FCC won by 66 runs

There was an incredible build of clouds as the wind swept across the fields below Windsor Castle. The prospects for completing a match looked pretty grim. However Del won the toss and we set about building a decent target. Prash was out in the first over to a snorter of a ball from Dave Crick. Arslan joined Nigel and they pushed the score along nicely until Arslan was out for 15. Uzair then entered the fray and made a quick fire 30. Nigel was very effective with a lot of fours through point and kept the scoreboard ticking over.

Zeeshan batted very stylishly for a crisp 35. Ali was next in with his usual flair and chimed in with 21 not out. Nigel was eventually out for 122. Peter joined Ali for the last few overs and matched his highest score of the season with 35 not out.

Our total of 272 was always going to be hard to get. At one stage, the rain did arrive with great force but after a 20 minute break and with us well on top we convinced our opponents to return to the pitch.

While Arag was being regularly dropped, three times by Ali alone, he nonetheless was building a big innings. Cranbourne, however, were always well behind the run rate and running out of batsmen.

Arag retired on 108 (rumour has it that he was protecting his average) to let one of the youngsters have a whack. The bowling honours were well spread around with Ali 30/1, Tam 38/2, Arslan 24/2, Zeeshan 52/2 and Uzair 24/1.

So we ended up with a double over Cranbourne this season… can we maintain this next time?
