Wealdstone Corinthians CC v FCC

By | June 30, 2012

Wealdstone Corinthians 168 all out from 34.4 overs
FCC 240 for 5 from 39 overs
FCC won by 72 runs (timed game)

After visiting various parts of Ruislip (the car park and ground were not that easy to find!) FCC finally managed to meet up at Wealdstone Corinthians ground slightly late to begin this timed game.

Wealdstone won the toss and asked Fulmer to bat first. Ernest (18) and Prash had a steady start putting on 40 for the first wicket. Ali (29, runs not age) came in at 3 and put on a further 55 with Prash (in seven overs), followed by Fish (46) and Prash who put on 80 in 10 overs.

Somewhat surprisingly a typical Fulmer collapse did not ensue with further contributions from Jules (16) and Mark and Manan (both 3*). Prash was the fifth (and final) wicket to fall having completed a well-deserved century (105) with Fulmer scoring 240 for 5 off just 38 overs. Wealdstone used seven bowlers (including their wicketkeeper) in an effort to stem the runs.

In response, some tight bowling from Fulmer’s openers (Ali 8-2-29-2 and Mark 8-3-13-0) put the pressure on Wealdstone and batsman Raj delivered with a good knock of 49.

Paul, Armando and Manan bowled well but without much success (Paul took one wicket) and the match appeared to be drifting towards a draw. It was the skilful introduction of Arjan by skipper Prash that proved to be decisive.

In just over four overs, Arjan took his first ever six-fer which included being on a hat trick twice! He finished with figures of 4.4-0-20-6 and took the last three wickets to fall in four balls. Most notably, four of the six were bowled – a testament to the amount of turn he was generating.

The match was duly won by Fulmer with just three overs remaining – an even more remarkable achievement in that we only had 10 men!
