West Wycombe CC v FCC

West Wycombe CC 71 all out
Fulmer CC 169 for 8
Fulmer won by 98 runs

The early season game against West Wycombe having been cancelled by to a stag do, the old foes met for the only time this season at their ground on the edge of the village.

Rain during the week (no surprise there, then) did not manage to stop this match going ahead. Though the grass cuttings left on the outfield did require some urgent attention prior to the game and a slightly reduced boundary for this timed game.

The toss was won by Wycombe and Fulmer were inserted. Prash (13) and Ali (49) started brightly putting on 48 for the first wicket, before a (surprising!) Fulmer mini-collapse saw FCC drop to 69 for 4.

The rot was stopped this time by a stand of 41 between Shankar (42*) and Will Voaden (24) and then another stand of over 40 (44) between Shankar and Del Randall (19).

The innings finished at tea with Fulmer on 169-8, with Manan the other not out batsman (8*) and Armando missing out on batting. The bulk of the West Wycombe bowing (13 of 36 overs) was done by B Sizeland (13-4-68-1) backed up by Jones bowling nine (9-1-32-4).

After tea, Fulmer went about trying to defend a reasonable (but achievable) score. A couple of early wickets by Ali gave some hope, but Parrett (17), Jones (18) and Farmer (18*) started building the innings.

This was then stopped in its tracks by an excellent spell from Ali who bowled 13 overs in total and finished with figures of 13-1-31-6 – his second 6-fer of the season.

His efforts were supported at the other end by Will, Ernest and Armando who took a wicket each. The straightness of the bowling was demonstrated by the fact that of all the wickets that fell two were LBW and the remainder were bowled.

West Wycombe ended on 71 all out (for those who can count they only had 10 men, which is why the bowlers only took nine wickets). The (unfortunate) champagne moment was the look on Ali’s face when Armando took the last wicket to deprive Ali of the chance for seven wickets!
