Widmer End CC v FCC

Widmer End 153 all out
Fulmer 210 for 8
FCC won by 57 runs

Our second match of the season and second away game already! Widmer End always is a good fixture at the start of the season. Despite the time of year the weather was good for cricket.

After early confusion all round as the team’s sat nav systems struggled to find the ground, lots of phone calls coordinating with each other, we managed to get 8 players to the ground for the start. The rest of the team trickled in over the course of the first hour of the match.

Ali won the toss (an early success rarely repeated to date) and elected to bat and opened along with Arslan.

Ali fell cheaply to some tight bowling by Widmer. Zeeshan (25) joined Arslan and had a good partnership of over 50. The rest of the team batted around Arslan who got into good form and hit some great shots which saw a few balls disappearing in neighbouring gardens. He finally got out after getting an excellent 137 and our innings finished at 210 for 8 in 40 overs.

Fulmer got straight into the act as Zeeshan and Manu opened the bowling with notable success. Manu finished his spell with 8-0-42-5 with Ali coming on as second change with a good return of 4.1-1-10-3.

Though our ground fielding showed signs of early season cold weather as four catches went down, one of Manu’s wickets came from a superb running catch from Arslan. Widmer End’s only resistance coming from Shah who went on to score 51 before falling to Ali.

Overall a good contest in which FCC came out on top.
