Hawridge & Cholesbury CC v FCC

By | August 18, 2013

Hawridge & Cholesbury 166 all out
Fulmer 244 all out
FCC won by 78 runs

Peter lost the toss but through some persuasive negotiation with Brian, his opposite number, as only 7 of our players were there at the time, we were put into bat.

Very good spirited of him which set the tone for a very friendly game. James King went first ball of the match, caught at very short cover. Apparently James and the fielder had discussed the fielding position before the ball was bowled!

Nomi appeared and hit his first ball for 4. He continued in an aggressive fashion but was caught in two minds, whether to go forward or back, and was bowled (22 made up of four 4s and a 6).

The bowlers  maintained a very accurate line and kept the runs down to a trickle. Shankar and Will went for 8 a piece before Arslan joined Peter. Peter (10) watched as Arslan built a score before Peter played across an in-swinger and was lbw.

Arslan continued on his merry way with some delightful strokes while David Timms (1), Ben (1) and Arjan (2) kept him company. Obaid then joined Arslan with 19 overs to go. Arslan played sensibly by protecting Obaid from taking too much bowling. Arslan was eventually out for 115 but he was replaced by our new number 11, Ali.

Our opposition started to smell a rat when Ali’s first 2 balls went for 6s. Ali knocked the ball all around the park and was ably supported by Obaid, who did not look like getting out. Ali was eventually bowled in the 39th over for 47 leaving Obaid not out on 9. A pretty handy total, courtesy of the brothers.

We then adjourned for a magnificent tea.

Nomi (8-3-17-1) and Obaid (3-0-21-0) opened the bowling and bowled pretty tightly without any success. James King (6-0-31-1) was brought on to replace Obaid and hit Brian’s off stump with an excellent delivery.

Will (5.1-1-12-2) took over from Nomi and bowled a similarly tight line without any luck in his first spell. The tight bowling meant that Hawridge were falling well behind the required run rate but with lots of wickets in hand. A well executed run out resulted from the bowling pressure.

Arslan (8-0-41-2) was brought into the attack and probably bowled as fast as any bowler we have seen this season. He was rewarded with two wickets. David (4-1-14-0) kept the run rate in check with some very accurate bowling. Arjan (3-0-41-2) was next into the attack and tossed down some very well flighted deliveries and managed one scalp.

James, Nomi and Will were brought back for their second spells and captured three wickets. Nomi had the opener J. Cath lbw for 69 to gain some revenge for being bowled by Cath a few hours earlier. Ali (2-1-4-2), having surrendered the gloves to Arslan 10 or so overs earlier, came on for 2 overs and bowled within himself with great effect. James took an excellent catch off Will to finish the match with a very solid victory for the away team.
