Little Marlow v FCC

By | April 19, 2014

Little Marlow CC 207 from 44 overs
Fulmer CC 204 from 41 overs
Timed game – match drawn

The 2014 season finally arrived and it was time to see if the work done in the nets could be translated into success on the pitch.

Amazingly, the full complement of Fulmer players arrived at Little Marlow with over 20 minutes to go before the start on the match. Manu went out with the opposition skipper and duly lost the toss and Little Marlow opted to bat first.

James and Peter shared the new ball with Peter gaining first blood for Fulmer with an early wicket. All the bowlers contributed (Jules, Manu, Manan, Paul C and Arjan) with James taking two wickets and Peter, Manu, Manan and Paul taking one each as Little Marlow scored 207 for six from the 44 overs Fulmer bowled in this timed game.

After tea Fulmer started slowly with Shankar out early, but that brought James to the crease with Nigel. These two timed their partnership to perfection such that when the 20 overs started 129 runs were needed. The run rate was kept at around the 6.5 runs an over as they piled on a 181 runs between them. Nigel eventually went for a well-crafted 82.

New Fulmer player Virek went out to try and help James across the line, but when he and then James (having scored a Fulmer career best 81) went in the last over, Fish and Jules were left to score the remaining six runs off the last three balls. Unfortunately they could only muster two more runs and the Fulmer innings ended tantalisingly short on 204 for four after 41 overs.

The draw was probably the fairest result in a game that was played on an excellent wicket and in great spirit by both teams even though the early season weather while occasionally being sunny was very cold.

Congratulations go to James for his highest score for Fulmer and to Manan who earned the fielding award.
