FCC v Baylis CC

By | May 17, 2014

Fulmer CC 167 for 8 from 40 overs
Baylis CC 170 for 9 from 40 overs
Baylis won by one wicket

Having had a weather-related break for a couple of weeks, the season kicked off again with the annual visit of Baylis CC to Fulmer.

Winning ways returned when Tony went out and won the toss and decided to bat first.

Fish and Prash opened and soon found that the wicket was as excellent as it appeared but the ball was coming on slowly.

A steady start was halted when Prash was run out by some brilliant fielding with Fish following shortly thereafter. Nigel (42) had good stands with Venkat and Will Voaden (in his first game this season) though the scoring was difficult and Fulmer were 58 for three at the half way stage.

The loss of two wickets in the 33rd and one on the 34th over seemed to be a sign that the total might be a bit short of a reasonable total to defend, but Vivek had other ideas and blasted 46 runs in double-quick time in a partnership of 50 with Tony (8*) in five overs. At the end of the 40 overs a total of 167 for eight looked a fair total.

After tea Baylis made a solid start with an opening partnership of 61 off 15 overs but five wickets fell in the next eight overs, and at 94 for six after 23 overs things were very evenly balanced.

Things got even more tense when Ish fell in the 31st followed by another wicket in the 34th over. Baylis paced their innings to perfection finally winning by one wicket in the 39th over.

All the bowlers (Samweg, Ben, Will, Paul Whelan and Vevek) chipped in but the pick was Prash with two for 23 off his eight overs and Venkat (7.4-1-25-4). Ben led the effort in fielding with two catches and lots of running around the field and duly won the fielding award, but our guest for the day, Shinjith, also fielded very well.

A great game with much enjoyment all round finished with just eight balls remaining with Baylis just getting the edge. Looking forward to gaining revenge next year.
