Fulmer CC 107 all out from 32 overs
West Reading CC 108 for 8 from 37 overs
Fulmer lost by two wickets

The first home game of the season finally arrived with new opposition being the guests.

West Reading won the toss and opted to field even though four of their players were still on route.

Fulmer openers, Shankar and Alex, made a steady start on a typical early season wicket that was very slow. This coupled with the long outfield grass meant that runs were not easy to come by and a high scoring game was never in the frame.

After an opening stand of 25, wickets fell steadily as the openers, Prash (who top scored with 18), Venkat, Fish, Jules and Samveg came and went without troubling the scorers too much.

This brought together Peter and Manu who managed to get the highest partnership of the FCC innings of 35. Manu scored 13 and Peter 12 and once the partnership was broken, Colly and Del Randall (the one and only!) could not add too many more although Del at least remained one not out.

FCC’s total of 107 all out from 32 overs looked to be a bit on the light side, but you never can tell.

After a Tansy tea, FCC’s bowlers made a sterling effort to win the game with Peter only conceding 16 runs (for one wicket) from his eight overs and Manu faired even better with three for 12 from his eight.

The other bowlers (Venkat, Colly – two wickets, Jules and Prash) all chipped in with the star being a short spell from Del which included a scintillating caught and bowled which made the fielding award an easy decision.

With West Reading on 50 for eight, things looked finely balanced but an excellent knock of 47* by S Khan, supported by W Chaudry and a couple of dropped catches saw them to 108 for eight off 37 overs. A low-scoring but exciting match just went the way of the visitors.
