Widmer End v Fulmer

By | April 19, 2015

Widmer End 38 all out off 18.4 overs
Fulmer 39 for 7 off 16.1 overs
Fulmer won by three wickets

Widmer End in the middle of winter is not a place to be for fair weather cricket players, this could also be said for the 19 April as it was cold, very overcast, blustery and with the occasional drizzle in the air.

But, as they say, the game must go on. Widmer End won the toss and decided to bat first; a decision that didn’t look so good with Arslan, James and Junaid bowling tightly and successfully, helped, it has to be said by a few injudicious shots from Widmer.

James took 3 wickets for 14 runs, bettered by Arslan’s 3 for 9, which was then bettered by Junaid’s four wickets for four runs. Widmer’s innings only lasted 18.4 overs for a total of 38 runs.

Fulmer, being who they are, decided to make a game of it and having lost seven wickets for 14 runs seemed to have the loss in the bag. However James (9*) and Arslan (15*) put on the biggest stand of the match (25*) to win the game for Fulmer by three wickets at 39 for 7 (two wickets in theory as Fulmer only had 10 men).

So a double-win for Fulmer on the opening weekend of the season meant a good couple of days for the club. Roll on the rest of the year!
