Fulmer v Phoenix CC

Fulmer 210 for 7 off 40 overs
Phoenix 211 for 2 off 25 overs
Fulmer lost by eight wickets

On the first day of the summer that was almost warm enough to play cricket in less than twenty layers of clothing Fulmer took on Phoenix in the cricket correspondent’s first home game.

Skipper Tony duly won the toss and elected to bat on a beautiful wicket. Jamie and Prash set things going with an excellent opening stand of 84 before Jamie went for 24. Keith, at three, didn’t hang around too long before James arrived and joined Prash in a stand of 79.

James eventually fell for 37, followed by Tony, Jules and Venkat. Prash was finally out for an excellent 106. Despite Paul and Armando not being required to bat, the total of 210 from Fulmer’s allotted 40 overs looked a bit short of a truly competitive total.

After a sumptuous Tansy tea, Fulmer went out to see if they could get among the Phoenix batsmen but in spite of Tony using seven bowlers (Jules, James, Armando, David, Paul, Venkat and Prash) the only successes were David and Paul with one wicket each and James who was the only bowler who went for less than six an over.

The game was duly wrapped up in just 25 overs with Phoenix’s opener, Kully, scoring 123 not out as they won by eight wickets.
