Gerrard’s Cross Third XI v Fulmer

By | May 2, 2015

Gerrard’s Cross 211 for 8 off 40 overs
Fulmer 190 all out off 40 overs
Fulmer lost by 21 runs

On a cold and breezy day, Fulmer travelled all the way to Beaconsfield for this fixture, where the only sounds were the wind howling through the trees and a cacophony of vehicles ploughing their way up and down the M40.

James won the toss and elected to field to try to keep everyone warm. An early wicket by him got everyone excited, but this soon disappeared as Gerrard’s Cross number two and three rebuilt, scoring 52 and 40 respectively before retiring.

This allowed the bowling team of Ali, James, Peter, Katie and Armando to claim a few wickets. Armando being the pick with 3 for 23 off four overs. The fielding award went to Katie for an excellent catch in the deep. Gerrard’s Cross ended up with a competitive total of 211 for eight from their 40 overs.

After tea, Fulmer started decently with openers Nigel scoring 49 before retiring and James scoring nine. Ali contributed a bright 29, but the batting awards went to borrowee Jacob (aged 12) with 25 and especially Jules with a well-crafted 39.

Wickets fell at the other end and Fulmer ended up slightly short with a total of 190 all out from their 40 overs. Despite (or maybe because of) the inclement weather, the game was played in the best of spirits and was enjoyed by all who took part.

Fielding award: Katie Gibson

Rebellion moment: Debuts for Keith and Katie Gibson
