FCC v Wycombe House

By | June 13, 2015

Fulmer 181 for 8 off 40 overs
Wycombe House 69 all out off 20.1 overs
Fulmer won by 112 runs
Rebellion moment: Keith’s catch in the gully

Fulmer appeared to be in slight disarray when a combination of an earlier than usual start, the weather and one player having to pull out due to work commitments meant that at the scheduled start time of 1pm only eight players were at the ground.

Skipper took the only option open to him when winning the toss and chose to bat (which he would have done anyway), in spite of the drizzle which was falling. He and Jules took the brunt of some tight bowling from the Wycombe House openers and both fell early on.

Keith and Fish almost saw the openers off with a stand of 39 before they fell with just one ball of Ash and Prince’s spells to go. Wycombe’s first change bowlers proved to be just as difficult to get away, as shown by the four bowlers combined figures of 32-5-92-6.

All of Fulmer’s batters contributed with good knocks from Peter, Manan and Paul. Mark and Prash (with a typically hard-hitting 24) put on 38 for the eighth wicket and Mark and Arjan 30 runs for the ninth (and last) wicket ending up 22 and 8 not out respectively. All the contributions, including 42 extras, took the Fulmer total to 181 for 8 of their allotment.

After tea, Fulmer took the field hoping to stop Wycombe from achieving the target which, on a truly brilliant wicket, looked to be a bit light.

Thankfully the bowlers responded to the challenge with Mark in his first bowl of the season getting 2 for 25 from his six overs, Jules 3 for 23 from his eight. Arjan got his bowling season off to a cracking start with a wicket first ball, courtesy of an excellent catch by Keith on the gully and finished with 1 for 5 off his two overs.

The pick of the bowling on the day was Paul with 3 for 10 from 4.1 overs. Those wickets and one run out by Mark meant that Wycombe were all out for 69 runs from 20.1 overs with Fulmer winning by 112 runs.

In spite of the early drizzle everyone enjoyed the day and both clubs look forward to seeing each other again.
