Wendover v FCC

By | June 14, 2015

Wendover 144 for 6 off 33 overs
Fulmer 142 for 8 off 40 overs
Fulmer lost by four wickets

At the scheduled start of play we had 7 players which does not provide the team with a lot of confidence. We negotiated a batting start for us with the promise of other players on the way.

We were off to a bad start with Peter caught off the second ball of the innings. Keith (6) was joined by Nick (40), who had almost as much luck as their skipper did later on when he was dropped 4 times including when on nought.

However he and Keith stayed together until the score was 26. Sukhi (5) and Paul (2) were out in pretty quick succession which had Ben (17) coming to the crease.

By this time Phil had found his way to the ground and Tony had popped along to enjoy, supposedly, a few overs watching some cricket. We also took up the offer of Wendover’s fixture’s secretary, Jonathan Seabrook, to join our merry band. That made for 10 batters.

After Nick was out David Timms (14 not out) joined Ben for a solid stand. Ben gave way to a superbly dressed Tony (31), who had borrowed spare kit from whomever was not on the playing field, to play a very valuable/club commitment innings. Phil didn’t trouble the scorers and Jonathan (4 not out) helped us see out the 40 overs.

After a splendid tea we set about making a game of it. Peter and David opened the bowling and kept the lid on the scoring for a while. Peter took a wicket before introducing Paul.

Paul took a useful wicket of the other opener but we then proceeded to drop their skipper at least 8 times! He went on to making a match winning innings of 75, finally succumbing to a nice catch behind by Ben off David (2 wickets). Jonathan bowled very well for 2 wickets. Wendover helped us out with a string of fielders which was much appreciated.

The match was played in a very good spirit but being let down by three players before the match started was disappointing.
