Sarratt v FCC

By | July 5, 2015

Fulmer 100 for 8 off 18.2 overs
Sarratt 101 for 5 off 21.4 overs
Sarratt won by five wickets

Both teams arrived at Sarratt to find themselves short of players; Fulmer had 9 and Sarratt 10, so things were still fairly even. Prash went out for the toss which he successfully called right and opted to bat first.

Fish and Keith went out to open for the second weekend in a row and for a second week put on a 50 partnership. They set off at a blistering pace scoring 61 from seven overs before Keith fell for 30. Once the openers were separated wickets fell with monotonous regularity and once Fish went for 39 the other Fulmer players could not add much, with Prash, Mark, Saurab, Jules and Venkat all going for single figures although Nick notched up 11.

Phil was left on 0* not having faced a ball. A total of 100 from 18.2 overs always looked a little light (says the FCC cricket correspondent who is the master of understatement).

The slowness of the pitch was clear by the fact that all the Fulmer batsmen were caught, some off very good balls, some off balls that were played early and went skywards.

The teams turned straight round to see how Fulmer would respond, and they responded well. Mark bowled some jaffas from his 10 overs taking 2 wickets for 44 runs. Venkat was economic with 15 runs from his four overs, Saurab got 14 for one wicket from his four overs and Jules was extremely frugal with just 10 runs for two wickets from his three overs.

All bowled well, but the target was just too small to defend successfully and it took Sarratt 21.4 overs to get there, right on schedule for tea.

A Fulmer loss, but a great day was enjoyed by everyone. Due to the early finish a beer match was played after tea, but the less said of that the better, suffice it to say that Fulmer scored more than in the proper match, but still managed to come third… OK, second!
