FCC v Burnham (Fourths)

By | August 29, 2015

Fulmer 135 all out off 37.3 overs
Burnham 159 all out off 30.3 overs
Fulmer lost by 24 runs

Paul C came a close second in the “winning the toss” stakes and Burnham skipper (Ali, who learnt everything he knows about cricket at Fulmer, or maybe not) decided to bat first.

This looked to be a good decision being handily placed at 121 for 4 after 20 overs. The first wicket to fall was an all-Box affair with Nick catching Subharan off Peter’s bowling.

Notably George bowled an excellent spell with 1-16 off his five overs. Some tight bowling By Paul C and Paul W after the drinks break kept the run rate down until the return of Peter brought a brilliant spell of three overs, three wickets for two runs to knock over the tail. Peter came off with his best return of 4-21.

Paul W picked up one wicket, Paul C three and William W went unrewarded from his spell. One hundred and fifty-nine scored in 30.3 overs was a slightly below par score on the day.

Post tea, Nick (4) and Fish started the innings with Nick being bowled off the only ball which mis-behaved and stayed very low. Fish followed soon after, which gave Nigel and Keith the opportunity to put on 40 before Keith went for 21.

Armando and Nigel put on another 28 before Armando was well caught, which brought George in to bat with dad Nigel. At the half-way stage things were very much in the balance with Fulmer being 69 for three – very much on track.

After the break one over from Ansar made all the difference getting the wickets of Nigel, Harry and Will W. This made things difficult for Fulmer though they were not going down tamely.

George and Peter put on 32 before Peter went for 22 to compliment his bowling figures. George eventually went for 13, Paul W didn’t hang around long and Paul C was left not out one. A tight game which Burnham only won by 24 runs.

Fielding award: Paul W and Keith for two catches each (though Keith probably edges it by taking a catch after only being on the field for two balls)

Rebellion moment: Peter getting his best bowling return for Fulmer.
