Saturday 19th June 2010 v Elite (Away)

 Fulmer bt Elite

Fulmer made the short trip down the A40 to renew rivalry with our newly established and closely matched opponents Elite. Social engagements of our hosts led to the game being reduced to 35 overs.

Batting first, Fulmer soon put Elite's bowling attack under pressure, Arslan stroking the ball with elegance and finding the boundary with increasing frequency was joined by Nigel who continues to make batting look ridiculously easy. Having passed 50 with ease it was almost a shock when Arslan who seemed destined for a century, managed to find deep square leg with a well struck hook. This bought Nick to the crease and both he and Nigel continued to take toll of the bowling, they pushed the score along to nearly 200 before Nigel, who had notched yet another 50 was out trying to accelerate. This bought Uzair in with absolute freedom to express himself and he certainly did not dissapoint. His customary walk down the pitch to the first ball received, gave an indication of what was to follow.

It is not unheard off to see consecutive sixes. However, it is rare to see both not just clear the boundary but also the perimeter fence!!  Your correspondent is fairly convinced that one bal lreached the outside lane of the A40 and probably made it to Hanger Lane !!, truly sensational hitting. Uzair was  unselfishly out to the last ball of the Innings as Fulmer closed on 228.

Elite's opening pair ensured that any complacency Fulmer may have felt that they had done enough, was soon  forgotten, they scored fluently and at a good pace and approached 100 with few problems, then the game  entered a decisive phase , a waist high full pitch from Uzair was sent skyward toward Colly at deep ( very deep ) square Leg. Paul the epitome of calmness clung on and received well deserved adulation and shouts of " never in doubt" from his grateful team mates. A change of bowling and the introduction of Del led to the next pivotal moment, as he soon accounted for Elite's captain, . Del 's guile and accuracy meant that wickets fell regularly and his figures of 7 - 21 overs reflect the excellence of his spell.

So a pleasing win against our hospitable opponents and the prospects of some more good cricket when we renew at KGF later this year.
