Sunday 25th April 2010 v Stoke Green (Away)

On a cold, windy and occasionally rainy day FCC made the onerous trek all the way to Stoke Green Cricket Club (SGCC). The toss was lost and Stoke Green opted to bat first in a 40 over match. Scoring 227 for 6 in their allotted overs meant that in spite of some good bowling, the five bowlers used all had their fair share of runs taken off them, although there were some positive signs along the way. FCC’s twelfth man, “butterfingers”, was in good form on the field with eight catches (of varying difficulty) being put down – on top of this five were actually held! In bucking the trend Derek Randall took two catches, including one excellent example of how it should be done. Going in to bat the run rate was maintained, although the regular loss of wickets meant that it was always going to be a tall order. An excellent 7th wicket stand of 66 between Randall Snr (who top scored with 45) and Jnr did raise a few hopes until the SGCC opener returned (who took 6 for 28) and put paid to any serious hopes of a win. FCC finished with 154 all out, losing by 73 runs. The fielding award went to Del.
