Wendover v Fulmer Sunday June 14th

Fulmer 182-9 bt Coopers 181 all out by 1 wicket

Another glorious summer day greeted our visitors from Wendover to do battle on the lovely green of King Georges' Field. The opponents decided to bat and found the tight bowling of Dave Paddon difficult to get away. Dave bowled the odd jaffer, one of which was knicked at pace to Peter Box fielding at first slip. It will go down in the scorebook as a dropped catch. At the other end Mudussar was experimenting with jaffers, wide balls and full tosses all of which brought wickets. New lad Josh Webber took a blinding catch at point from one of the full tosses. Mudussar finished the day with an impressive 4 for 43. Although we fielded well they are two others in the team, both with the surname of Randall, that registered entries into the dropped catches' competition.
Dave Paddon, Ghulam and Derrick Randall shared the rest of the wickets with 2 a piece as we bowled Wendover out for 181 about 20 minutes before tea.

We took an early tea (magnificent is was too; thanks Di) and Derrick and Ghulam opened the batting with plenty of time on our side. Ghulam did not really settle before being caught but then Derrick, 82 and Mudussar, 41, put us well on the way to victory. Unfortunately Derrick had done so much running that when it came to get back into the crease from a forward prod, he was found a few inches short. However his was a great knock and put us in a strong position. Az, 32, then came into the picture with some big hitting. With just 6 runs needed to win and 5 wickets in hand he went for the shot that was to win us the game, only to be bowled.

As we tried to snatch a loss from a certain victory we manfully struggled to get 5 runs to equal the score. It was then that near disaster struck as we lost three wickets while the scores were equal, two run outs and a catch. Dave Paddon came to the crease with one run to get off 6 overs to join Mark Overall on 0 not out. Having managed to put the bat in a place that avoided the first two balls, from their opening bowler, he found the right spot with the third ball. It went sailing towards the boundary while Dave and Mark scampered a single to win the match. Another match with a heart attack type finish.

Well done lads on another win and special congratulations to Derrick.
