Sunday 18th April 2010 v Widmer End (Away)
Widmer
End - St Margarets - 71 (20.1 overs) v Fulmer 5 for 202 (40 overs)
We were welcomed by Widmer End for this traditional early season fixture in
beautiful sunshine. We were put into bat and Nick Box, with some reticence,
partnered Derrick Randall in an opening stand of 66. Derrick, on 39,
received a real grubber which was a signal to all other batsman that the
wicket was going to prove a little tricky. Nick creamed a delightful cover
drive to bring up his 50 before he too was bowled for 57. A very subdued
Omer made 20 before being caught going for a big shot. Uzair made a handy 26
before becoming Chris Beeby's third victim. Julian Gibbs chimed in with a
quick fire 10 before Daniel Randall and Peter Box saw out the 40 overs
making 10 and 12 not out respectively.
Armando seemed to attract more than his fair share of very well hit long off
and long on drives and created an impenetrable wall. For this performance
he took out the fielding award for the day.
Dave Paddon hit some early season form with the ball taking 3 for 35 while
Ali also was successful with 2 for 15. Uzair continued his good form for the
day claiming 3 for 12 off just 2 overs and Vijay finished off Widmer taking
the last 2 wickets for 6 off 2 overs. The tricky wicket resulted in 12 of
the 15 wickets from being bowled.
It was an early drink for the lads and provided lots of confidence as we set
off on the 2010 season. Well done to the team.
